About

A practice rooted in presence

Dr. Margaux Bellamy founded Eventide Therapy for adults who find themselves between one chapter and the next. She sees people one at a time, in person in San Francisco or by video, and the pace is set with you.

Her training draws on psychodynamic, somatic and contemplative approaches. In practice that means a lot of listening, some attention to what happens in the body, and no rush.

Eventide is named for the hour between day and night, when the light changes and the day's noise falls away. It is a good hour for thinking out loud.

  • Ph.D. in clinical psychology

  • Licensed psychologist in California

  • Trained in EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems

  • In person and by video

Does one of these sound like you?

You don't need to have it figured out before you reach out. If any of these sound familiar, a first session is a place to start.

  • A chapter ended and the next hasn't started

The old routine is gone, the new one isn't clear, and you are getting through the days without feeling settled in any of them.

  • You keep going over what happened

Replaying the conversation, the decision or the day, and wishing someone would just listen.

  • Everyone else seems to have moved on

The people around you expect you to be back to normal, and you aren't sure what normal is now.

  • You are choosing between two roads

A job, a city, a relationship: a decision with no clear right answer and nobody to think out loud with.

Our Approach

How we hold the work

A session is a conversation between two people. These are the three things Dr. Bellamy brings to it.

  • A small potted plant on the sill of a bright misty window

    Attention to the body

We notice where a feeling shows up in the body and use slow breathing to stay with it. This is a way of paying attention, not a medical treatment.

  • A white armchair and a palm plant in a lounge with dark wooden cabinets

    The relationship itself

What happens between you and your therapist is part of the work. The room is meant to be one where you can say what is true without being judged.

  • A window looking out on green trees beside a radiator and a draped blanket

    Methods chosen with you

Dr. Bellamy draws on psychodynamic therapy, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems, and explains each before using it.

The Process

How we begin together

Every start is different. This is the usual shape of the first weeks.

  1. A laptop and an open notebook on a white desk under the shadow of a window on a peach wall
    01

    A short call

Send a message and we'll set up a short call to talk about fit and answer your questions.

  2. Lace curtains beside a dark window with a view of trees
    02

    Getting to know each other

The first sessions are for your history, what has changed and what you want from the work.

  3. A swallowtail butterfly hangs beside empty chrysalises
    03

    The work itself

With some trust in place, we look at the patterns and decisions in front of you, at a pace that suits you.

  4. A seedling sprouting in a pot of dark soil
    04

    Ending when you decide

Therapy ends when you and Dr. Bellamy agree it is time. You can stop at any point.

Common questions

Answers to what people ask before reaching out.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you are asking, something in you may be ready for support. You don't need to be in crisis. A first session is a chance to see how it feels.

What does a session look like?

A session is 50 minutes, usually weekly at first. There is no set formula; some sessions are mostly talking and others pay more attention to the body. Your clinician sets the pace with you.

Do you take insurance?

Eventide is out of network. Dr. Bellamy gives you a monthly itemized receipt you can send to your plan. How fees work has the details.

Do you offer video sessions?

Yes. Sessions are in person at the San Francisco office or by secure video. Dr. Bellamy is licensed in California, so for video you need to be in California at the time of the session.
